Rustic And Inviting Shaker Kitchen

Romsey, Hampshire

This kitchen exudes a rustic charm blended with contemporary style. The cabinetry, from the Ashbury Shaker range, presents a bold Ocean Blue on the island and surrounding lower cabinets, which tastefully contrasts with Warm Grey upper units. The 20mm Dekton Lunar worktops lend durability alongside a luxurious stone look, infusing an air of elegance that complements the rich blue tones.

In terms of layout, the kitchen is thoughtfully designed, with the large central island providing ample space for food preparation and social interaction. This island, also in Ocean Blue, anchors the room and houses a Siemens Flex induction hob and a discreet Siemens StudioLine downdraft worktop ventilation system, ensuring practicality without compromising on the open aesthetic of the space.

A built-in Caple wine cabinet is incorporated in the L-shaped layout, offering a neat storage solution for wine enthusiasts, and serving as an additional design element that adds functionality. Completing the kitchen’s modern amenities, a Quooker Pro3 Nordic round boiling water tap sits ready, offering convenience with its instant boiling water feature.

The presence of a fireplace at one end of the room and exposed wooden beams overhead nods to the kitchen’s rustic roots, providing a striking textural contrast against the smooth, contemporary finishes of the cabinetry and appliances. Overall, this kitchen presents a mixture of traditional features and modern luxuries, making it both inviting and impressively equipped for culinary endeavours.

“Our clients were modernising a lovely old barn style house and felt they wanted to bring the kitchen bang up to date without it clashing with the classic structural features of the building. Two-tone kitchens can be a very elegant way of creating a strong focal area without the need for lots of fussy, dust holding design features such as plate racks and open shelves.

Light was limited at the kitchen end of the room. So, we implemented bright looking worktops and wall units that had warm hints of colour to avoid losing the cosy & inviting look created naturally from the oak beams and brick fireplace”.
