Traditional Painted Shaker Kitchen

New Forest, Hampshire

Welcome to one of Kitchen InStyle’s most elegant, classic, and timeless kitchen design projects. This beautiful, beaded centre, solid Ash Painted Shaker kitchen with tongue and groove painted ends has been tailored to the needs of organised modern living, with thoughtfully curated design and functionality.

The island is a versatile hub designed for everything from lazy Sunday breakfasts to lively dinner preparations. The sleek but incredibly durable Dekton Sasea countertop contrasts beautifully with our cabinetry, creating a focal point that is both inviting and practical. With generous storage space including deep drawers and cabinets, the island is not just a central dining spot but also a storage haven. Above the island, elegant pendant lights and a lantern ensure a well-lit area that is as perfect for food preparation as it is for hosting.

The shaker-style lay-on doors offer timeless appeal. Victorian cup handles and knobs in matt black blend seamlessly with the range cooker into the design, exemplifying a perfect balance between soft traditional charm and contrasting contemporary chic. The kitchen was colour-coordinated around an existing fully equipped pantry unit with open shelving, providing a home for essentials but also standing as a stunning design element.

Function and beauty are also combined in the two kitchen sink areas. A large farmhouse-style sink, framed and slightly stepped forward with 50mm traditional painted flat mullions, offers visual balance below the Perrin & Rowe Ionian bridge mixer tap. The smaller prep and drinks sink is no less practicable, as it is paired with a Quooker Pro3 Classic Fusion tap. Combine the two sinks, two ovens, two fridges, two freezers, two larder storage areas and the vast sections of worktop and you really do have a luxury workstation with defined space for host chefs, bartenders, and guests alike!

In every detail, from the precision of soft-close cabinet mechanisms to the strategic placement of each light fixture, this kitchen exemplifies Kitchen InStyle’s dedication to creating spaces that elevate the everyday. It is a kitchen designed not just for cooking, but for living InStyle – a space that is as functional as it is beautiful, and as welcoming as it is efficient.

KIS combine knowledge & passion to deliver great solutions. A rigorous design process that respects all budgets, with an attention to detail not often experienced. The CAD presentation brings your future kitchen to life & the real-world installation looks just as good! Pride in the end result is reflected in the thorough management of even minor remedials. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.”

On this extension project, our client particularly wanted to reuse a couple of items from the original kitchen as well as the original wooden windows and frames of various sizes. I genuinely loved this.

As is often the case in new builds, I got to architecturally position precisely where we wanted all the doors and windows, as well as the steel goal post location to support the lantern above the island. This ensured I could get the perfect balance between the structure and integrity of the building (A cobb cottage) and the kitchen design.

I also have to say that I have rarely come across a client who wanted to be involved at every level, in every detail over several meetings. For me, this enthusiasm was a real breath of fresh air. It made this one of the most enjoyable projects I have worked on with the help & collaboration of a client for years and I think we created a truly special space together. Sometimes amazing design doesn’t just happen, you must work at it.”
